At Hero, we are a team. It's a collaborative effort, especially on set where we rely on each other as art directors and photographers in every scene. One of the most important tools we use to unify the team and help each shoot go silky smooth is our wireless transmitters.
Now, Canon's WFT-E7A is a bit of a pill. It's big and ill-fitting, it has a wire (I know, I know, a wireless transmitter with a wire!) that is prone to bending, it inconveniently replaces your tripod mount, and takes a rocket scientist to get set up the first time. All of that said; it works! We are able to shoot to card as well as to the laptop for our art directors to have eyes on the images as they come in.
As a photographer, this makes life so much easier because we can concentrate on composition and lighting while an art director is keeping an eye on details. More importantly, our art directors can check focus and help us to move on once we have the shot. As an art director, this makes life easier because with a large image on screen we can shape the images into our creative vision. Added bonus, we speed up editing time by knowing we have the shot in the can.
Possibly more important than any of that, is how much it impresses everyone the first time they see it. We're all for the cool "future tech" bonus points! Plus, you can do cool stuff like this:
